Privacy Policy — Clatter

Last updated: 01 September 2026

The short version: Clatter does not collect your personal information. It has no accounts and no analytics, and nothing you do in the game is sent to us. It does show optional adverts, supplied by Google — never banners, never mid-round. Everything the game remembers stays on your phone and is deleted when you uninstall it.

Who we are

Clatter is published by Speech Act Studio (registration number 2026/699552/07), 55A Grey Avenue, Flamingo Vlei, Cape Town, Western Cape, 7441, South Africa. If you have a question about this policy or about privacy in the app, write to support@speechactstudio.com.

What the app stores on your device

So that your progress survives closing the app, Clatter saves the following to your phone's own private app storage. None of it is transmitted anywhere.

Display nameThe name you type when you first open the game, shown on your own scoreboard. You choose it, it need not be your real name, and you can change it at any time.
Scores and roundsYour scores, best word and number of rounds, kept for the last fourteen days.
StreakHow many consecutive days you have played, and the date you last played.
Tokens and itemsYour token balance and which visual themes you have unlocked.
Reminder settingWhether you asked for a daily reminder, and the time you chose.

What we do not do

Purchases

Clatter is free. Some extras — language packs, the Supporter unlock and token packs — can be bought inside the app. Those purchases are handled entirely by Google Play or the Apple App Store. We never see your card details, billing address or payment method, and we receive no personal information about you from either store.

When the app starts, it asks the store which items you already own so your purchases survive a reinstall or a new phone. That check sends no information about you. Apart from fetching adverts, it is the only network request the app makes, and the rest of the game works offline as before.

Advertising

Clatter shows no banner ads and nothing that interrupts a round. Advertising appears in only two places: an optional video you can choose to watch in exchange for a hint, extra time or tokens, and at most one full-screen advert per day, shown after you finish your last ranked round. Buying the Supporter unlock removes the daily full-screen advert. The optional videos remain available to everyone, because they are always your choice.

Adverts are supplied by Google AdMob. To show them, AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier and information about the device. We do not receive that information, and we still collect nothing about you ourselves. Google processes it under its own privacy policy. Gambling and casino advertising categories are blocked.

In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom you will be asked for consent before any advert loads, through Google's own consent form. On iOS you will be asked separately whether apps may track you. You can decline both and keep playing; you can also reset your advertising identifier or turn off personalisation in your device settings at any time.

Notifications

If you switch on the daily reminder, the app asks your device for permission to show notifications and then schedules the reminder locally on the phone. No reminder is sent from a server, and we are not told whether you enabled it, dismissed it or acted on it. You can switch it off inside the game, or revoke the permission in your device settings.

Deleting your data

Because everything is held on your device, you are in control of it. Uninstalling Clatter removes all of it permanently. You can also clear it without uninstalling: on Android, Settings → Apps → Clatter → Storage → Clear data; on iOS, delete and reinstall the app. There is nothing held by us for you to request, correct or erase.

Children

Clatter is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children. Because the app collects no personal information at all, it does not create a profile of any user, child or adult, and there is nothing that could identify a child.

The app stores

Clatter is distributed through Google Play and the Apple App Store, which also process any purchases you make. Those companies collect their own information about downloads, purchases, crashes and device details under their own privacy policies, which we do not control. Any aggregate statistics they show us cannot identify you individually.

Your rights

Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and similar laws, you have rights to access, correct, delete and object to the processing of your personal information. We hold no personal information about you, so in practice there is nothing for us to disclose or erase. You are welcome to contact us at support@speechactstudio.com to confirm this, and we will respond within thirty days.

Changes to this policy

If we add a feature that changes what the app handles — an online leaderboard, for example — we will update this policy and change the date above before that feature is released. Material changes will also be noted in the app's store listing release notes.
